Before Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, Manaus city was being served by Ponta Pelada airport till 1976, when this older airport was abandoned to serve as base for Air Force, Manaus. There are two passenger terminals with one terminal serve to receive international and domestic flight and the other is used for general aviation. Integrated air traffic control of Brazil and centre of air defense is also situated in the airport vicinity. The airport complex has a total area of 14,050,529.01 meter square with track dimension of 2700 X 45 meters. The airport also has an aircraft parking to comfortably hold 18 aircrafts. Major destinations of the flights from Manaus airport include Miami, Porto Urucu, Porto Alegre, Salvador da Bahia and many others.
