Auckland's airport has been voted the best one in Australasia. Here is the article from www.stuff.co.nz :
Auckland airport has been voted the best airport in Australasia at the 2009 World Travel Awards.
It follows passengers voting Auckland one of the 10 best airports in the world and the best in Asia Pacific in this year’s Skytrax awards.
Chief executive Simon Moutter says the recognition is "extremely satisfying".
"Each new award we receive is a testament to the enormous amount of work we are doing with our airport partners including airlines, border agencies, and baggage-handlers to provide a world-class passenger experience."
More than 1000 companies were nominated in 108 categories for this year’s World Travel Awards announced in London this week.
Book online: You can usually find lower rates on the internet than with telephone bookings.
Airport drop-off: Drop the car at the airport on your way home to avoid paying taxi fare from downtown to the airport. Car rental companies rarely charge customers to pick up or return their car at different locations within the same metropolitan area.
Parking alternatives: It's usually cheaper to park overnight in a nearby public carpark than to pay hotel parking rates. And in a lot of cities, you can park overnight on the street as long as you can move the car before the daytime parking restrictions kick in.
Try renting in smaller cities: If you're travelling around, sometimes it pays to rent a car in a nearby, smaller city rather than the main one you're staying in. Larger cities and airports have higher rates and pass those charges on to the customer.
Single day renting: Rent a car only for the days you actually need one. If you rent and return the vehicle each day you can avoid hotel overnight parking costs.
Weekend or weekday rentals: In some tourist destinations renting a car at the airport for a weekend during on-peak periods will generally cost more, while during the week, fewer travellers often means better deals. Conversely, with business destinations, airport rental car lots are full and prices are lower on weekends. In big cities like New York where many city dwellers don't own a car, rental cars are often in great demand during the weekend at city locations while airport rental counters are quieter.
Keep an eye out for cheap gas: At home, you probably know which gas stations have the lowest prices, but on the road you may not. Make a mental note of gas prices at stations near the airport, but you can also try websites like GasBuddy.com or GasPriceWatch.com to take the guess work out of finding cheap gasoline.
Following the tips above each time you purchase car rental can add up to big savings for business travellers. For great deals on Airport Car Rental go to http://airportrentalcar.net
Now here's an interesting site. Ever notice how when you're travelling through airports you have all this time to spare? Well a website at http://www.sleepinginairports.net has, and they have created a guide to sleeping in airports:
Why spend money on a night in the airport hotel when an inflatable raft on the airport floor is free? Sure, it may sound a little cheap and degrading at first, but read-on and you'll soon discover a travel community, that for 13 years has been sharing their airport sleeping experiences and travel advice with fellow airport sleepers around the world. Airport sleeping is no longer just for the poor young backpacker. Nowadays, you'll find travellers of all ages and income brackets stretched out on airport floors around the world.
So now, sit back....get out your travel itinerary and read the latest airport reviews. You are about to discover which airports you can sleep in safely and comfortably and those which you should avoid altogether on your next trip.
Here's their top ten guide to the more relaxed airports, which they say travellers love for their amenities, friendly staff and comfortable seating:

East Midlands Airport (IATA code EMA) is located in the East Midlands of England, at Castle Donington in the District of North West Leicestershire. The airport is between the cities of Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.
Here's some additional information on East Midlands Airport, sourced from Wikipedia:
In 2004, East Midlands Airport was rebranded as Nottingham East Midlands Airport, despite lying in Leicestershire and the nearest city being Derby. Furthermore, there was already a small airfield called Nottingham Airport. The reasoning behind the name change was that many people from outside the UK and unfamiliar with the country's geography could not identify with the term 'East Midlands' and did not know exactly where in the UK it was ... A BBC report on 18 October 2006 suggested that the airport may change its name once again and the change, to East Midlands Airport: Nottingham, Leicester, Derby came into effect on 8 December 2006.

Manchester Airport (IATA code MAN) is a major airport located at Ringway in the City of Manchester, within Greater Manchester, UK. It is the busiest airport in the country outside the London region in terms of passenger numbers and offers flights to destinations across Europe, North America, Africa, South Asia, the Caribbean, the Middle East and the Far East.
Here's a bit of history on Manchester Airport, sourced from Wikipedia:
After WWII the airport grew massively. The first trans-atlantic schedule commenced on 28 October 1953, operated by Sabena Belgian World Airlines to New York's Idlewild Airport (now JFK Airport). By 1958 the airport was handling 500,000 passengers annually. Twenty four hour operation was introduced on 1 April 1952. Another main runway extension (from 5,900 ft (1,800 m) to 7000 ft) was opened on 23 April 1958 permitting regular non-stop scheduled flights to North America. Terminal 1 was the airport's first purpose-built post-war terminal and opened in late 1962; Manchester was then the only airport in Europe to have aircraft piers. In 1972 the airport was renamed "Manchester International Airport" and was designated an "international gateway" in the 1980s.

Newcastle Airport (IATA code NCL) is situated at Woolsington in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Though in Newcastle, the airport itself is actually owned by seven local authorities (51%) and Copenhagen Airport (49%).
Wikipedia has some interesting facts about Newcastle Airport:
The 1960s saw tremendous growth in passenger numbers at the Airport. This was mainly due to British people taking foreign holidays to places such as Spain instead of holidaying within the UK. A new runway was built, along with an apron and a new air traffic control tower. These new additions were opened by the then-Prime Minister, Harold Wilson. In the 1970s, with passenger figures approaching one million per year, the Airport status was changed to Category B, making it a regional international airport.
In October 2007 a new Air Traffic Control Tower was completed at a cost of £8.2 million, situated on the north side of the airfield. The Airport recently published a Master Plan that sets out development proposals for the airport until 2016. In the near term, these include building a multi-storey car park to replace the current short-stay parking, a new 187-bedroom on-site hotel (currently under construction) and the expansion of the freight facilities on the south side of the airport. Feasibility studies are being carried out to evaluate the longer-term proposals that include extending the runway at its eastmost end and building a heavy rail link to connect the airport with the National Rail network.

Leeds Bradford International Airport (IATA code LBA) is in the City of Leeds Metropolitan District in West Yorkshire, England, northwest of Leeds itself. It is locally referred to as Yeadon Airport. It serves the cities of Leeds and Bradford, as well as the wider Yorkshire region and is the largest airport within Yorkshire. The airport was in public ownership until May 2007, when it was sold for £145.5 million to Bridgepoint Capital.
Here's some more information about Leeds Airport, from Wikipedia:
By the mid 1970s the package holiday had become popular in the UK and in 1976 the first holiday charter flight to the Iberian Peninsula departed Leeds Bradford. In 1978, it was decided that, with runway extensions, the airport could be upgraded to regional airport status. Work began in 1982, and was completed in November 1984. The airport also underwent significant extensions and redevelopments to the Terminal building, the first phase of which was opened in 1985.
In August 1986, an Air France Concorde charter flight from Paris landed at Leeds Bradford for the first time, and an estimated 60,000 people were there to see it. Occasional Concorde charter flights, all of which used British Airways aircraft, continued until June 2000.
On November 2008 the early stages of the airport masterplan were clarified, with in-depth detailed plans for the expansion of the airport terminal being published, at an estimated cost of £28 million.

Cardiff Airport (IATA code CWL) is an international airport for Wales, serving Cardiff and the rest of South, Mid and West Wales. Around 2 million passengers pass through the airport each year. It is located in the village of Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan, west of the Cardiff city centre of Cardiff.
Some additional information on Cardiff Airport, from Wikipedia:
Cardiff Airport is the only airport in Wales offering international scheduled flights. It is served by scheduled, low-fare, business and charter carriers and also supports corporate and general aviation. The majority of international flights are to Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands with the most popular being Alicante, Amsterdam, Palma de Mallorca. The most popular domestic service within the UK is to Edinburgh. There are also transatlantic charter flights to the USA and the Caribbean.
The history of the airport extends back to the early 1940s, when the Air Ministry requisitioned land in the rural Vale of Glamorgan to set up a wartime satellite aerodrome and training base, named RAF Rhoose, for Royal Air Force (RAF) Spitfire pilots. Construction work commenced in 1941, and the airfield officially began life on 7 April 1942 when it was taken over by No 53 Operational Training Unit.
The commercial potential of the runway was recognised in the early 1950s with Aer Lingus starting a service to Dublin in 1952. A new terminal building followed, along with flights to France, Belfast and Cork. An escalation in holiday charter business resulted in passenger throughput exceeding 100,000 in 1962.
Extensive works on the facility will begin from January 2010, costing around £3m, starting with the redevelopment of the front of the airport terminal and approach areas.

The airport is located on site of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. On 22 March 1975, an agreement was made for joint civilian-military aviation activities at the base. Airport construction began on the northeast side of the Air Force Base runway on 19 July 1975 and opened to commercial aviation in 1976. This replaced the commercial airport located in the Crescent Beach area of North Myrtle Beach, which became Grand Strand Airport (CRE) and now serves private and corporate aircraft with parking, refueling, and maintenance.
The airport formerly served as a hub for Hooters Air, before that airline's shutdown in 2006. For 2008, US Airways was the dominating carrier.
